On August 10, 1985, the barn on Lunnabacken
was officially opened. Now the homestead Odensvallahult’s
farm was complete. The barn was built in the early 1700s. It was donated to Hembygdsföreningen Gamla Urshult (Old Urshult’s Homestead
Association) by the owners Ann-Britt and Karl-Gustav Olofsson
from Boaryd in Väckelsång’s
parish.
The barn is the only building on Lunnabacken
that originally not came from Urshult’s parish. The
part, where the byre was, is today the showroom where the homestead association
has exhibitions every summer. On the east side of the barn is a “horse
carousel”, a machine where a horse, or an ox, pulled around a shaft with a
pulley at the other end. The device could push agricultural machinery such as
threshing machines, grinders and chaff works, etc.
Over the large doors at the front is an old, long “apple ladder”
hanging. During the first half of the 1900s the apple trees were very high. Farmers
used to graft trees high enough to let cattle graze without reaching the fruit.
This was called "cow grafting". The ladder is donated by Edvard Karlsson, Sånnahult.
