Map    SLUNGÖ. Stora Slungö (”Big” Slungö) 1,38 ha/3,41 ac and Lilla Slungö (”Little” Slungö) 0,48 ha/1,18 ac. Distance from Lunnabacken: 4,4 km. In the 1100s, when the church in Hwam was built and the church bells called to Christian service over the islands of Lake Åsnen the sound spread the uneasiness among giants and goblins. On Slungö lived a giant woman, who more than anyone else became annoyed by the bell ringing. She thought: Surely I will show how to get rid of the bell ringing over Lake Åsnen’s islands.

On Slungö was a stone of the same weight as several ox loads. The giant woman took it up and placed it in her garters, assessed the distance to the church and then she threw away the huge stone. But at the same time as the stone was hurled into the air she lost footing. When she violently put down her foot again, the rock split beneath her and the stone did not arrive at HWAM’s church. As result the church in Hwam was saved from destruction and Slungö bursted. So today we have both Stora Slungö och Lilla Slungö (Great Slungö and Little Slungö).
The stone from Slungö is currently lying on a flat rock called “Knallehall”.
